How to unlock the transfer market in FC 27
A greyed-out Transfers tab doesn't mean your club is broken. EA keeps the transfer market closed on new and unproven accounts until they show normal play. Here's how access usually opens on console, PC and the Web App, and what to check when it doesn't.
The short answer
To unlock the transfer market in FC 27, create your club in the game, finish the starter objectives EA gives new clubs, play some matches and give it a little time. Returning players with a club from earlier seasons usually have the transfer market open from day one. New accounts tend to get it in the game first and on the Web App later.
EA doesn't publish an exact checklist and has changed the rules from one season to the next. If you've done everything below and the transfer market is still locked, EA Help is the place to check the current requirements and the only one that can look at your account.
Why EA locks the transfer market on new accounts
The transfer market is the only way coins and tradeable cards move between clubs. That makes it the obvious target for bots and for accounts created in bulk to farm coins. Keeping the transfer market shut until an account looks like a real player slows those schemes down.
For you, it means the lock is about account history, not about anything you did wrong. A brand-new EA Account, an account that has never played Ultimate Team, or one that skipped a few seasons can all start FC 27 with a closed transfer market. And because the in-game transfer market and the Web App can open at different points, you may see it working on the console and still locked in the browser.
How to unlock the transfer market, step by step
- Create your FC 27 club in the game. Start Ultimate Team on your console or PC and set up the club, even if you plan to trade mostly on the Web App. Normal play in the game is what EA appears to look for, not just an account that exists.
- Work through the starter objectives. Open the Objectives menu and complete the beginner groups (more on them below). Claim the rewards as you go; the packs and coins help early on.
- Play matches. Squad Battles, Rivals and friendlies all count as normal play. EA has never published a minimum number of matches, so think in sessions rather than minutes.
- Secure the account. In your EA Account security settings, switch on login verification if it's off and create backup codes. It protects the club you're building, and you'll need a backup code if you ever order coins by Comfort Trade.
- Check the in-game transfer market. Go to Transfers in Ultimate Team. If you can search and list cards there, the account is on its way.
- Then check the Web App and Companion App. Quit the game, sign in to the Web App and open the Transfers tab. If the transfer market is still locked there, keep playing normally for a day or two and look again.
The starter objectives: "The Journey Begins" and similar
In recent seasons EA has given new clubs a set of onboarding objectives, with names along the lines of "The Journey Begins". You'll find them in the Objectives menu, and for many players finishing them is what finally opens the transfer market.
The tasks are basic on purpose. They usually look something like this:
- play a match in one or two modes;
- make a change to your squad, such as a new formation or a substitute;
- open a pack and add the players to your club;
- hand in a simple Squad Building Challenge.
The exact list, the number of groups and what they unlock change from season to season, so take the list above as an idea of the style, not a checklist. Squad and SBC tasks can often be done in the Web App, but anything that involves playing needs the game. The rewards, usually packs and a handful of coins, also give you your first FC 27 coins to work with.
EA can change the criteria at any point in the season. For the rules that apply right now, check EA Help rather than posts written for older games.
Console and PC: where the lock applies
Access follows the club, and each platform family has its own club. That shapes what you need to do.
PlayStation
PS5 and PS4 share one club, so you only unlock the transfer market once for both consoles. In the Web App, pick PlayStation when you sign in, and make sure the EA Account is the one linked to your PSN account.
Xbox
Series X|S and Xbox One work the same way: one club across both generations. If the Xbox profile you play on is linked to a different EA Account from the one you use in the browser, the Web App will show an empty club with the transfer market locked.
PC
On PC you play through the EA app, Steam or Epic, and all three lead to one PC club on a PC transfer market that's separate from consoles. FC 27 coins don't move between PC and console clubs, and neither does access: if you play on both, treat each club as its own case.
Why the transfer market stays locked
If you've played, done the objectives and waited, and the transfer market is still closed, one of these is usually the reason.
The account needs more time
Access doesn't always arrive the moment the last objective is done. Some accounts open quickly, others take a few more days of play. Keep using the club normally rather than starting a new one, which only resets the history you've built.
You're looking at the wrong club
Signing in to the Web App with an EA Account that isn't linked to your console, or choosing the wrong platform, shows a club with no history and no transfer market. Check the connected accounts in your EA Account settings.
The game is open somewhere else
Ultimate Team runs one session per club. If it's open on the console, the Web App may sign you out or refuse to load the transfer market. Quit the game fully, then sign in again.
A temporary trading limit
Searching, bidding or listing very quickly can trigger a temporary block on the transfer market. Players call it a soft ban. It's an automatic guard against bots, it lifts by itself after a while, and slowing down afterwards keeps it from coming back.
A restriction on the account
EA can restrict the transfer market on accounts it links to activity that breaks its User Agreement: bots, tools that automate trading, or buying coins from third parties. A transfer market ban can be temporary or permanent, and EA may also remove coins or ban the account outright. Objectives won't lift it; only EA can review a restriction, through EA Help.
Maintenance or a busy launch
During server maintenance, big promo launches and the first days of a season, the transfer market can be switched off or unstable for everyone. If your friends can't trade either, it isn't your account.
Why it matters before you buy FC 27 coins
Coins can't be sent straight from one club to another in Ultimate Team; every transfer goes through the transfer market. So an open transfer market is the first thing any coin delivery needs. If you plan to buy FC 27 coins, sort out access first, because an order for a locked club has nowhere to land.
With Comfort Trade, our delivery team signs in through the Web App, so the transfer market needs to work there, not only in the game. With Player Auction you list a card yourself, wherever your transfer market is open. Our how it works page covers the rest of the preparation, and the Comfort Trade vs Player Auction guide helps you pick a method. When you're ready, choose your platform and amount in the order form.
